Wireless FAQ

  • Q: Does the Terry College of Business have a wireless network?
  • A: Yes, the Terry College is a participating member of the University PAWS Network. Instructions for logging into the system can be found on that website. PAWS covers many areas on campus as well as some additional sites like parts of downtown Athens.

  • Q: Can I use the Terry College of Business wireless network?
  • A: Yes, as long as you are affiliated with the University and have a UGA MyID to authenticate to the PAWS network.

  • Q: What kind of coverage does the Terry College of Business wireless network have?
  • A: We currently cover most of Sanford Hall as well as the 3rd floor of Brooks Hall and the auditorium in Brooks 145. Note that wireless cards have different range abilities.

  • Q: What kind of hardware do I need to use the Terry College of Business wireless network?
  • A: You will need a computer with a 802.11b wireless card. Sometimes these are branded as "Wi-Fi". Some laptops have built-in hardware to do 802.11b. Note that not all cards work properly with our network.

  • Q: How should I set up my computer to use wireless?
  • A: Check out the EITS PAWS FAQ page. There you can find OS specific help and instructions.

  • Q: I can't seem to get a network connection!
  • A: Make sure your settings are all correct. If you are using a laptop, visit Herty Field on North Campus and see if your card works there. If your card doesn't work with the Herty Field PAWS system, it won't work with our system either. If you have further problems, you can call the UGA EITS HelpDesk at 542-3106.

  • Q: Will network coverage be increased?
  • A: We have a plan to implement a completely new wireless infrastructure, providing complete coverage of Sanford Hall, Brooks Hall, and the first 4 floors (G-3) of Caldwell Hall. This new infrastructure will include many more access points. This upgrade will eventually replace the current network, and will absorb the current access points. This project is currently in the purchasing phase.

  • Q: My question still hasn't been answered, what can I do?
  • A: Contact the Terry College of Business OIT Helpdesk in Sanford 304, email to help@terry.uga.edu, or call 706.542.6799.
