Tom Scott is a familiar face around the Athens business community. As a native Athenian, Scott has spent his career devoted to many aspects of community improvement and development. As a founding shareholder in several Athens-based businesses, Scott has utilized his skills and success to improve the Athens community through many philanthropic opportunities.

Scott graduated from the Terry College of Business in 1986 with a BBA in Accounting and became a Certified Public Accountant in 1989. He began his career working in small firms in Gainesville and Atlanta, returning to Athens in 1994 to open Trinity Accounting Group.

Eventually growing to more than 40 employees, Trinity Accounting Group is the largest public accounting firm in Athens and offers a full range of services to the business communities of Athens and surrounding areas. From client accounting and real estate consulting to music business management, Trinity Accounting Group is able to provide top-rated services to a wide variety of clientele.

Scott's business interests are not limited to accounting, as throughout the years he has been involved in a wide variety of ventures. In 2002, Scott partnered to create The Dovetail Companies, an award-winning, Athens-based real estate development company. As chief financial officer, Scott oversees the development of The Woodlands multifamily housing communities and The Markets commercial real estate properties. Today, The Woodlands communities are located throughout the Southeast and represent the best in college student housing.

Within the Athens community, Scott has been involved in several redevelopment projects to improve and preserve historical landmarks. The Addieville cluster homes, the Barber Street revitalization, and the Poplar Church revival represent a few of the federal tax credit and tax freeze projects Scott has worked with to improve the area. These projects have all been given historical renovation and preservation awards and accolades.

Scott has held leadership positions in many projects and causes, lending his time and expertise to the Athens Homeless Property Corp. as a board member and treasurer, the Mayor's Planning Commission Committee for Multifamily Zoning, the National Bank of Georgia as chairman of the board of directors, the Boys and Girls Club of Athens, and the Monsignor Donovan Catholic High School executive board, just to name a few.

Throughout the year, Scott is an active participant in recruitment for Trinity Accounting Group. As the recruitment shareholder, he attends the J.M. Tull School of Accounting Career Fair in September to personally meet and speak with students preparing to graduate and start their careers. Although extremely busy during the day, Scott often takes time to meet interested applicants and speak with them about their goals for the future.

"Tom has been an avid supporter of the Tull School for many years," says Ben Ayers, director of the school. "He continues to hire a number of our students every year, and Trinity Accounting Group has been an employer of choice, offering great career opportunities to Tull students. We greatly appreciate what Tom has meant to the Athens community and the Tull School."
