The Bloom Award is a lifetime achievement award presented annually to a member “in recognition of their distinguished service to the Association during his or her career.”
“I am pleased that Dr. Kau’s lifetime of hard work has been recognized,” said Terry College Dean Robert T. Sumichrast. “This award is only given once a year to one person. It is the highest honor possible from AREUEA and is given in recognition of distinguished service to the Association during the individual’s career.”
The Bloom Award is not the only major award Kau has received. A former C. Herman & Mary Virginia Terry Chair of Business Administration, Kau has also served as editor of the Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics since 1988.
Kau first came to Terry in 1973, but has also served in various capacities at the University of California, Los Angeles; Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco; the University of Illinois, Seattle University; and the University of Washington, among others.
He earned both a Ph.D. and a master’s degrees in economics, and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Washington. He has also served as editor for the Journal of Real Estate Literature and the Journal of America Real Estate and Economics Association, and was associate editor of the Journal of Regional Science and the Journal of Real Estate Research.
