Today, it’s mobile apps and cloud computing. Who knows what innovation will be the next wave to overtake the Internet?

Whatever the future holds, students in the University of Georgia’s Master of Internet Technology degree program are among the first to study those new technologies and try them out. Prospective applicants are invited to two open houses in Atlanta on Oct. 5 and Nov. 2 to meet faculty and current students. The Master of Internet Technology program targets working professionals who want to enhance or shift their current careers.

“Mobile technology and the cloud are some of the hottest things going in the Internet field right now,” said Craig Piercy, director of the Master of Internet Technology program. “This program not only positions students to be leaders in today’s trends, but also equips them to be trailblazers in the technologies of tomorrow.”

The open houses are set for Tuesday, Oct. 5, and Tuesday, Nov. 2, both from 7 to 9 p.m. at UGA’s Gwinnett Campus, located at 2530 Sever Road in Lawrenceville. The open houses are the first step in the admissions process for students who will enter the graduate program in fall 2011.

The Master of Internet Technology program is distinguished by its acute focus on Internet technology innovation, application and theory – offering more specialization for Internet professionals than traditional information systems or information technology programs. The Master of Internet Technology curriculum features a balance of both theoretical and practical coursework, plus intensive, real-world projects commissioned by Atlanta-area companies.

Student projects span the arenas of start-up ventures, established businesses, government and nonprofits. Past and current projects include development of an online ordering system, iPhone and Android app development, and creating Google Maps-enabled technology.

Master of Internet Technology students are enrolled for five semesters and meet for classes two evenings per week at the Gwinnett campus. They have access to University of Georgia resources, such as study abroad opportunities, career services, networking opportunities and more.
