UGA Music Business Program to host music business panels April 24 at Eddie's Attic in Atlanta

Athens, Ga. - The University of Georgia Music Business Program will host an educational panel, titled "Start me up! How to get your music business off the ground," on Saturday, April 24, at Eddie's Attic in Decatur, Ga.

The event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will cost $5 at the door.

Chris Hanks and Bruce Burch, who are both faculty members at UGA's Terry College of Business, will moderate two panels:

  • "How I got my music business off the ground" from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • "30 seconds to pitch your plan" from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Hanks is the director of the Terry's Entrepreneurship Program and a lecturer in the Management Department, and Burch is the director of the Music Business Program and an award-winning songwriter.

The panelists will feature music business professionals and veteran entrepreneurs, including:

  • James Andrews, co-founder and managing partner of Everywhere Social Media
  • Aaron Arnold, CEO of MusicIsMyBusiness and former assistant to Sean "Diddy" Combs
  • Mark "Dill" Driscoll, an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Terry College who formerly founded World Sports Promotions, McCann Event Marketing, Momentum Worldwide, and Ignition
  • Chris Esposito, president and CEO of Digital College Network
  • Duncan Freeman, founder of Band Metrics
  • Tammy Hurt, founder of Outsource Events Inc. and Placement Music LLC
  • Clarkson Logan, co-founder of Maestro
  • Richard Nailing, co-founder and CEO of Free All Media
  • Singer/songwriter Doria Roberts

Hanks and Burch also will moderate a speed networking lunch session with panelists and audience participants between sessions.

Eddie's Attic is located at 515 North McDonough Street in Decatur.

UGA's Music Business Program, which is a privately funded certificate program housed within the Terry College of Business, prepares students for careers in the music industry. Students can earn an interdisciplinary certificate in music business by receiving a hands-on education about subjects like music and business fundamentals, copyright issues, creative content, artist management, and production and technology.

In addition to guest lectures from prominent figures in the music industry, students gain real-world music industry experience through internships with record labels, promoters, studios and other companies.
