Directors' College offered June 14-15 at Terry College Executive Education Center in Buckhead

ATHENS, Ga. — The University of Georgia's Terry College of Business and the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) will conduct its accredited board director education program on June 14-15 at the Terry College's Executive Education Center in Atlanta.

Speakers scheduled for the 2006 Directors' College include:

  • Thomas R. Chapman, retired chairman and CEO of Equifax Inc.
  • A.D. "Pete" Correll, chairman of Georgia-Pacific Corp.
  • Thomas J. Falk, chairman and CEO of Kimberly-Clark Corp.
  • Roger W. Raber, president and CEO of the National Association of Corporate Directors
  • Earnest W. Deavenport Jr., retired chairman and CEO of Eastman Chemical Co.
  • Dennis R. Beresford, Ernst and Young Executive Professor of Accounting at UGA's Terry College of Business, board director of Legg Mason, Kimberly-Clark Corp., and Fannie Mae, and former Financial Accounting Standards Board chairman
  • Carol Bowie, senior vice president and director of U.S. research for Institutional Shareholder Services

The Terry/NACD Directors' College helps current or prospective board members learn about best practices in corporate governance and develop the skills and insights needed to effectively monitor corporate performance, said Charles E. Squires, director of executive programs for the Terry College.

The program is accredited by Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) and was the first ISS-accredited program for board director education in the Southeast.

ISS is the leading provider of proxy voting and corporate governance services, serving more than 1,600 clients worldwide. ISS analysts research and recommend votes on more than 35,000 companies across 115 markets.

ISS evaluates a firm's corporate governance structure and system by determining its Corporate Governance Quotient (CGQ), which includes director education among the many factors taken into account. Boards composed of directors who have participated in ISS-accredited programs like the Terry/NACD Directors' College can increase their CGQ.

Founded in 1977, the NACD is the premier educational, publishing and consulting organization in board leadership and the only membership association for boards, directors, director-candidates and board advisors.

NACD members serve on or work with corporate boards drawn from Fortune 500 companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange, as well as smaller over-the-counter, private and closely held firms.

The two-day Directors' College program will be held at the Terry College Executive Education Center in the Buckhead area of Atlanta. Sessions begin at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 14, and end at approximately 4:30 pm on Thursday, June 15. Registration fees are $2,000 ($1,800 for NACD members or for additional participants from the same organization). Registration includes admission to all sessions, meals, refreshments and program materials.
