ATHENS, Ga. — An innovative conference designed to give college faculty the fundamentals for fostering student leadership will be conducted July 11-14 by the Institute for Leadership Advancement and the Office of Executive Programs at the University of Georgia's Terry College of Business.
Teaching Leadership 2004 will be lead by ILA faculty instructors Christine Riordan, Daniel Feldman and Vikki Clawson, leadership experts who will expose conference participants to fundamental elements of leadership development while exploring different teaching techniques and resources.
The three-day conference is designed for faculty members who want to expand the leadership dimensions of their management courses, faculty who are or will be teaching leadership courses and faculty and administrators who want to design their own student leadership programs, as well as those who are interested in expanding their knowledge about leadership.
The conference will include six sessions, during which participants will learn important concepts, theories and frameworks for teaching leadership and consider the various types of pedagogy for teaching leadership. Instructors will provide recommendations on organizing leadership courses, including class topics, course syllabi, and course materials. They will also identify useful tools for teaching leadership, including textbooks, readings, cases, videos, and Internet-based resources.
In addition to the benefits of the interactive sessions, each participant will receive:
- Examples of course syllabi
- A CD-ROM containing class lectures and content for three leadership courses
- Examples of effective leadership development exercises
- Examples of personal leadership assessments to use in classes
- Examples of cases for use in teaching leadership
