DIRECTORS' COLLEGE OFFERED JUNE 16-17 2004 AT J.W. MARRIOTT IN ATLANTA
ATHENS, Ga. — The University of Georgia's Terry College of Business and the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) are offering an accredited board director education program on June 16-17 at the JW Marriott Hotel Lenox in Atlanta.
The Terry/NACD Directors' College is one of only 33 corporate governance education programs in the United States accredited by Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) and was the first ISS-accredited program for board director education in the Southeast.
ISS is the leading provider of proxy voting and corporate governance services, serving more than 950 clients worldwide. ISS analysts research and recommend votes for 20,000 shareholder meetings each year.
ISS evaluates a firm's corporate governance structure and system by determining its Corporate Governance Quotient (CGQ), which includes director education among the many factors taken into account. Boards composed of directors who have participated in ISS-accredited programs like the Terry/NACD Directors' College can receive an upward adjustment to their CGQ.
The Terry/NACD Directors' College helps current or prospective board members develop the skills and insight needed to effectively monitor corporate performance, said Charles E. Squires, director of executive programs for the Terry College.
Founded in 1977, the NACD is the premier educational, publishing and consulting organization in board leadership and the only membership association for boards, directors, director-candidates and board advisors.
NACD members serve on or work with corporate boards drawn from Fortune 500 companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange as well as smaller over-the-counter, private and closely held firms.
The two-day Directors' College program will be held at the JW Marriott Hotel Lenox in the Buckhead area of Atlanta. Sessions begin at 7:30 a.m. on June 16 and end at approximately 4:30 pm on June 17. Registration fees are $1,800 ($1,500 for NACD members or for additional participants from the same organization). Registration includes admission to all sessions, meals, refreshments and program materials.
