FINANCIAL REPORTING AFTER ENRON: FORMER FASB CHAIRMAN DENNIS BERESFORD MODERATES MAY 16 PANEL AT TERRY THIRD THURSDAY

ATHENS, Ga. — Former Financial Accounting Standards Board Chairman Dennis Beresford moderates a panel discussion on "The Coming Changes to Corporate Governance and Reporting after Enron" at the next Terry Third Thursday breakfast on May 16 in Atlanta.

Hosted by the University of Georgia's Terry College of Business, the programs are held from 7-9 a.m. on the third Thursday of the month at the UGA Alumni Club and Business Center in the Atlanta Financial Center.

Beresford is the ErnstandYoung Executive Professor of Accounting in UGA's Tull School of Accounting. Joining Beresford will be panelists Rick Miller of Powell, Goldstein, FrazerandMurphy and Ed Heys of DeloitteandTouche.

Beresford served two five-year terms as chairman of the FASB from 1987 to 1997, following a 26-year career with ErnstandYoung. The FASB sets the accounting standards that U.S. corporations follow when issuing financial statements to the public.

In February, he was invited to Washington to provide expert testimony before the Senate Banking Committee on how accounting practices and federal legislation might be changed to prevent a recurrence of the questionable accounting practices that contributed to the collapse of Enron and tarnished reputation of Arthur Andersen.

Miller is a partner in the Atlanta office of Powell Goldstein, specializing in mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance. He advises corporate boards on strategic planning and has extensive experience with acquisitions, restructurings and reorganizations.

Heys serves as the Atlanta deputy managing partner of DeloitteandTouche, responsible for overall management of the firm's offices in Atlanta and Birmingham, Ala. With the firm for 19 years, Heys was previously the business unit leader of Deloitte's high tech and services group.

Terry Third Thursday costs $30, including breakfast. Season tickets are available for a full year at a cost of $165. The speaker series is co-sponsored by Atlanta Business Chronicle. Reservations can be made at 706-583-0397 or reservations@terry.uga.edu. For more information, go to http://www.terry.uga.edu/ttt.
