SELGIN NAMED TO LIST OF TOP 250 ECONOMISTS INTERNATIONALLY
ATHENS, Ga. — Economics professor George A. Selgin of the University of Georgia's Terry College of Business is one of the world's top 250 economists, according to a study released by the European Centre for Advanced Research in Economics.
Selgin was selected from a field of over 55,000 economists throughout the world who have published at least one research article in an economics journal between 1994 and 1998.
The study, "Revealed Performances: Worldwide Rankings of Economists and Economics Departments," selected 1,000 economists and rank-ordered them according to how frequently they had written research papers and how frequently those papers had been published in professional journals. The study was funded by the European Economic Association.
Selgin also authored three books and a number of articles not accounted for in the rankings, including articles appearing in The Financial Times, The National Review and The Wall Street Journal.
Selgin earned his Ph.D. from New York University in 1986 and was a faculty member at George Mason University and the University of Hong Kong before joining the Economics Department at UGA in 1989. His principal research areas are monetary and banking theory, monetary history, and macroeconomics.
