INFORMATION SYSTEMS LEADERSHIP SCHOOL OFFERED IN ATLANTA BY CENTER FOR INFORMATION SYSTEMS LEADERSHIP
ATHENS, Ga. — The Center for Information Systems Leadership (CISL) at the University of Georgia's Terry College of Business is hosting its first Information Systems (IS) Leadership School on November 12, 2002, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Atlanta-Buckhead.
With information systems so often at the heart of business innovations, "IS Leadership" has become a critical component of a successful business strategy, said Dale Goodhue, a management information systems professor at UGA and member of the IS Leadership School's planning committee.
In this one day workshop, distinguished leaders from industry and academia will come together to share their experiences and perspectives on IS leadership issues. This eclectic group of speakers includes award-winning CIOs of major business and non-profit organizations. The speakers are briefly profiled below.
- Bob Cross - Cross was founder, chairman and CEO of Talus Solutions, which was later sold to Manugistics, and the author of a New York Times' Business Best Seller.
- Lee Hunter - Hunter is the CIO of Southwire, one of the world's leading wire and cable manufacturers. He was recently selected as the Georgia CIO of the Year in 2002 (national).
- Gideon Hollander - Hollander is founder, CEO and CTO of Jacada, the world's leading provider of legacy integration and web-enablement solutions.
- Elaine Mitchell - Mitchell is CIO of United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta and Georgia CIO of the Year in 2002 (regional).
- Christine Riordan - Riordan is director of the Institute of Leadership Advancement at UGA's Terry College of Business. She has been a consultant to many organizations, like AT&T and LOMA Inc.
- Bob Whitehead - Whitehead recently retired as CIO of SunTrust Banks.
Participation in the Leadership School is by invitation of the Terry College's MIS Department. Attendees will include a select group of Terry College graduate and undergraduate students and junior-level executives from industry.
The theme of the first school is: What is "IS Leadership"? How does it differ from leadership in general? What are the key skills, understandings, personal characteristics, and tools that IS leaders need?
The IS Leadership School Web site located at http://www.terry.uga.edu/cisl/school/ provides the agenda for the day.
This novel initiative is the brainchild of Terry faculty associated with CISL, Goodhue said. CISL has launched other strategic initiatives such as the Terry Internet Technology Forum, Annual Conference on IS Leadership, and the Special Interest Group on IS Leadership. These initiatives are designed by the nationally ranked (#4) MIS program aspart of its effort to focus theoretical and applied research on the critical areas of IS leadership and management.
