AFLAC CEO TO SPEAK AT TERRY THIRD THURSDAY IN ATLANTA MARCH 21

ATHENS, Ga. — Daniel P. Amos, chairman and CEO of AFLAC, will discuss the company's advertising and branding efforts at the next Terry Third Thursday speaker program in Atlanta on March 21.

Hosted by the University of Georgia's Terry College of Business, the lecture series features prominent executives and special guests from UGA as speakers at a breakfast meeting on the third Thursday of the month. The programs are held from 7-9 a.m. at the UGA Alumni Club and Business Center in the Atlanta Financial Center.

AFLAC is the leading provider of supplemental insurance sold at the workplace in the United States, offering policies to employees at more than 200,000 payroll accounts. It is also the largest foreign insurance company in Japan, insuring one out of four Japanese households.

However, it's the company's advertising campaign — featuring the AFLAC duck — that's built the insurer's brand identity with U.S. consumers. The company says that 90 percent of Americans now recognize its name, and AFLAC's U.S. sales growth has increased by about 30 percent since the ad campaign began in early 2000.

Amos is responsible for broadening AFLAC's product lines in the United States and Japan. During his tenure as CEO, revenues have grown from $2.7 billion to $9.6 billion and market capitalization of AFLAC has grown from $1.3 billion to more than $13 billion.

Fortune magazine ranked AFLAC the top insurance company in its list of "The 100 Best Companies to Work for in America" and includes AFLAC in its "Most Admired Companies" list.

Amos worked in sales for 10 years after joining the company in 1973. He was named president in 1983, chief operating officer in 1987, chief executive officer in 1990 and chairman in 2001. Amos graduated in 1973 from UGA's Terry College of Business, where he majored in risk management and insurance.

Amos serves as a member of the Consumer Affairs Advisory Committee of the Securities and Exchange Commission. He is also a member of the board of directors of Synovus Financial Corp. and the Southern Company and is a member of the board of trustees of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and House of Mercy in Columbus. He is the former chairman of the Japan America Society of Georgia and former chairman of the University of Georgia Foundation.

Terry Third Thursday costs $30, including breakfast. Season tickets are available for a full year at a cost of $165. The speaker series is co-sponsored by Atlanta Business Chronicle. For more information, go to www.terry.uga.edu/ttt or call 706-583-0397 to make a reservation.
