McTeer Jr., president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, will deliver the commencement address to graduates of the master of business administration degree program from the University of Georgia's Terry College of Business, his alma mater. The MBA Commencement ceremony will be held in Hodgson Hall of the Performing Arts Center at 7:30 pm on Friday, May 11. More than 100 members of the Class of 2001 will be recognized. McTeer, who received both his bachelor's degree in finance and his doctoral degree in economics from UGA, has been described as the leader of "the free enterprise Fed." Under McTeer's leadership as president and CEO, the Dallas Federal Reserve Bank has become the Federal Reserve System's gateway to Mexico and Latin America. He also serves on the Federal Open Market Committee, the principal monetary policy-making body of the Federal Reserve System, which meets every six weeks to determine monetary policy for the coming period. Before joining the Dallas Fed in 1991, McTeer worked for the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. Beginning in 1968, he held several positions with the Richmond Fed, including research economist, editor of the Economic Review, administrative officer, and eventually, senior vice president in charge of the Baltimore branch. McTeer is the former president of the Association of Private Enterprise Education, a national association of scholars who promote market solutions to public policy problems. He has served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth University, John Hopkins University, and several state and regional banking schools. ###
