COMPUTERWORLD RANKING SAYS UGA'S TERRY COLLEGE OF BUSINESS HAS ONE OF THE TOP 25 'TECHNO-MBA PROGRAMS'

ATHENS, Ga. — The Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia has one of the nation's top 25 techno-MBA programs, according to the results of an annual survey announced by Computerworld magazine.

The survey, published in Computerworld's October 22 issue, asked campus recruiters nationwide to nominate the MBA programs with concentrations on technology that they felt produced the best graduates. The survey also asked the business schools themselves to nominate the best techno-MBA programs in the country.

According to the article accompanying the survey results, the goal of the survey was to identify schools that "do the best job of combining good management techniques and technology innovation under the general heading of sound business practices."

"It's very satisfying. We consistently get rated very high in surveys," said Melvin Crask, director of the Terry College's MBA programs. "We have a very strong Management Information Systems (MIS) Department."

Crask said developing management models for emerging technologies is one of three key areas of focus outlined in the Terry College's strategic plan, so it's not surprising that this emphasis on MIS is paying dividends.

"This confirms the strength we have there," he said.

Computerworld reported that 89 percent of the Terry College's MBA graduates in 2000 accepted a job within six months of getting their degrees, at an average annual starting salary of $72,300.

Computerworld is a weekly print and online publication targeting IT professionals and managers. The company has conducted its survey of the nation's top techno-MBA programs annually since 1998.
