TERRY COLLEGE OF BUSINESS UNDERGRADUATE ENROLLMENT IS FIFTH LARGEST IN THE U.S., SURVEY FINDS
ATHENS, Ga. — The Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia was home to the fifth largest enrollment of undergraduate business students in the country last year, according to a new survey by the AACSB-The International Association for Management Education.
The Terry College reported that a total of 5,430 undergraduate students enrolled last fall. The largest full-time business school enrollment on one campus was reported by Baruch College in Manhattan, with 7,295 undergraduate students.
"We have been the growth engine for the University of Georgia," said Dean P. George Benson. "The Terry College's enrollment has grown by 40 percent during the past four years. None of the other schools and college at UGA has grown by more than 16 percent.
"This is due in part to the hot regional and national job markets and the strong demand within the business community for Terry College graduates," Benson said. "Interestingly, large programs are not often highly ranked. In our case, however, we are large and good. Overall, our undergraduate program is among the top 20 public universities in the country, with our insurance and real estate programs ranked fourth and fifth nationally."
"Based on the survey responses," said Dan LeClair, director of information services and strategies with the AACSB, "it appears that undergraduate enrollment at the nation's business schools increased slightly from the year before. Enrollment has been picking up momentum since about the mid-1990s."
More than 400 AACSB-accredited business schools voluntarily participated in the organization's 1999-2000 Business School Questionnaire. The AACSB is the professional association and accrediting agency for schools and colleges of business in the United States.
