BUSINESS WEEK RANKS UGA'S TERRY COLLEGE OF BUSINESS AMONG TOP 50

ATHENS, Ga. — The University of Georgia's Terry College of Business is ranked among the top 50 schools named to BusinessWeek's 2000 ranking of the best business schools.

The Terry College MBA program had been ranked among the top 50 in BusinessWeek's previous survey, published in 1998. Earlier this year, U.S. News and World Report ranked the Terry College 48th nationally among the best graduate business programs and 28th among the best undergraduate programs.

"Public business schools are our true peers and competitors. Once again the Terry College is ranked among the top 25 publics," said Dean P. George Benson. "Though we don't dwell on these rankings, we are pleased to have the quality of our MBA students and the performance of our faculty and staff recognized yet again."

BusinessWeek, which has been evaluating business schools since 1988, determines its ranking of the top business schools by surveys of what it calls "the customers of MBA programs: graduates and corporate recruiters." The magazine sent questionnaires to 16,843 MBAs of the class of 2000 at 82 schools, 15 of them outside the United States. BusinessWeek also sent surveys to 419 companies that recruit MBAs, including more high-tech and Internet companies to reflect the changes in the business landscape. Of those polled, 10,039 students and 247 companies responded. Student and recruiter survey results are weighted equally. In addition, for the first time this year, BusinessWeek accounted for "the power and quality of ideas - the intellectual capital - generated by B-school faculties," which accounted for 10 percent of each school's rankings.

"The Best B-Schools" is the cover story of the October 2 issue of BusinessWeek. In addition to the magazine article, BusinessWeek Online (www.businessweek.com/bschools/) offers interactive profiles of more than 225 business schools. The magazine's Web site also offers data on admissions, financial aid, curriculum, job placement and salaries.
