The faculty award winners were chosen by a committee of their peers based on nominations from the college's seven academic departments.

  • Christine Riordan, assistant professor of management, was named Teacher of the Year. Both students and faculty have noted the effectiveness of her interactive teaching approach through superior evaluations and the adoption of her teaching techniques. She is director of the Terry College's proposed Institute for Leadership Advancement in business organizations and serves on the Undergraduate Admissions Committee. She is published in a variety of journals and is a member of the editorial boards for the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, and Journal of Management.
  • Jeffry Netter, professor of banking and finance, received the Research Award. He is the editor of the Journal of Corporate Finance: Contracting, Governance and Organization.
  • Sandra Gustavson, head of the Insurance, Legal Studies, and Real Estate Department and the Bradford McFadden Professor of Personal Financial Management, was honored with the Faculty Service Award. Gustavson organizes the Annual Invitational Insurance Management Seminar, which draws practitioners to Athens each fall.
  • The Terry College Alumni Board voted to give professor emeritus E.J. Leverett the Distinguished Service Award. In his 28 years at UGA, Leverett founded the risk management and insurance program and helped build it into one of the largest undergraduate programs in the country with about 200 students. He created awareness of the program among industry leaders and was instrumental in the creation of the department's internship program. He has authored more than 100 articles on all aspects of risk management and insurance. Since retiring in 1992, Leverett continues to serve as a consultant to numerous corporations and remains in demand as a speaker for a variety of conferences and seminars.
