Athens, Ga. — A grand prize of $100,000 in venture capital will be offered to the 2011 winner of UGA’s Next Top Entrepreneur competition, sponsored by the Entrepreneurship Program at the Terry College of Business.
The venture capital jackpot is double the amount that was at stake last year.
Next Top Entrepreneur is both a competition and a seminar series for students. The series runs throughout the academic year and is open to all University of Georgia students. Competitors participate in a series of challenges, seminars, and individual coaching sessions focused on starting a business, said Chris Hanks, director of the Entrepreneurship Program.
Information sessions for 2010–11 began last fall, and teams are submitting their initial business plans for Round 1 of the competition during January. Two more competition rounds are scheduled for February and March. The winner will be determined at the finals on April 14.
