William Lastrapes, a professor in Terry's economics department, was quoted in an Athens Banner-Herald article about the lull in local business during spring break. 

“Because it’s so predictable, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal,” Lastrapes said. “It would be a big deal if more people went away than usual or something unpredictable happened that would have a negative effect. But since it comes around every year, the patterns are pretty similar.

“My guess is that businesses have just adapted to this sort of thing.”

Lastrapes adds that with much of the student population somewhere else, folks who might not be regular patrons of downtown establishments have their chance to enjoy hassle-free entertainment.
