American companies need a new kind of leader, Virginia Drosos told students recently at the University of Georgia's Terry College of Business in Athens, Ga.

Drosos is the former head of Procter & Gamble Co.’s $6 billion global beauty care division. She left P&G (NYSE: PG) after 25 years in September, as the company relocated its skin care headquarters to Singapore.

Drosos returned to her alma mater to address Terry College’s third annual Professional Women’s Conference.

She espoused an “outside in” leadership approach for modern business leaders, one that will enable companies to compete in global markets with ever-changing demographics.
