Music Business Program faculty member David Lowery discussed artist compensation from streaming services like YouTube and Pandora at the Protect Athens Music conference March 5 in Athens, the Banner-Herald reported. 

Explaining that many artists have compulsory licensing agreements and can't remove their music from Internet music services, Lowery made a case for artist retaining greater control of their work. 

“The fundamental problem doesn’t have anything to do with revenue, but with transparency ... it’s not a free market,” Lowery said.
