The MIS department welcomes Amrit Tiwana, who joins the Terry College as an associate professor. He previously served on the faculty of Emory University and held the Union Pacific Professorship at Iowa State University. He received his doctorate from Georgia State University’s Robinson College of Business.
Tiwana’s research focuses on the intersection of information systems governance and systems development, with an emphasis on knowledge integration within and among firms. He has published 45 journal papers. His research on systems development and information technology governance has appeared in leading IS journals, and he serves on the editorial board of several major IS journals. He authored one of the early books on knowledge management in 1999; this book is widely used in MBA programs worldwide and has been translated into several languages.
His research has been conducted in and supported by a variety of corporations, industry groups, and industry consortia in the US, Europe, and Asia. Among these are UPS, IBM, Eli Lilly, Hitachi, HP, Fujitsu, Ericsson, KPMG, NEC, Mitsubishi Electric, Toshiba, Mitsui Chemicals, Kansai Electric, DoD, Nippon Telephone and Telegraph, Sony, and Sumitomo Steel.
