“Ace: Designing a 'helpful' business model”
Tom Glenn is chairman of the board for the Ace Hardware Corporation and president of a 14-store chain of Ace Hardware locations throughout Tennessee and Georgia. Before joining his family's Ace Hardware business, Glenn was employed by the Consulting Division of Arthur Andersen and Co., currently Accenture, from 1984 to 1987.
Hardware, however, has run in the family for nearly a century. In 1919, Tom's grandfather opened his first hardware store in Chickamauga, Ga. Tom's father served on the board of directors for Ace Hardware from 1979 to 1986. Tom was elected to the Board in 1996.
Tom Glenn received his BBA in accounting from the University of Georgia in 1981 and his MBA from Duke University in 1984. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the Tennessee Society of CPAs, and the National Association of Corporate Directors.
Some of Glenn's civic activities include sitting on the board of directors and serving as treasurer and chair of the Finance Committee for the United Way of Chattanooga. He also serves on the board of directors for the National Center for Youth Issues, the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce, and the St. Nicholas Episcopal School. Glenn lives in Chattanooga with his wife Darlene and their two children, Lauren and Garrett.
