CLASS of 2008 BIOGRAPHIES

CARLA BRANDON  

Carla graduated with honors from the University of Georgia in 2003 with a double major in Management Information Systems and Marketing. Following graduation, she began her career in general business consulting as an analyst with Accenture. While working for Accenture, Carla performed a data mining role at Freddie Mac and a business process analyst role at BellSouth. For the last two years, Carla has worked at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as a consultant with Unisys Corporation. During this time, Carla directly served key CDC leaders by performing various business functions in the areas of finance, information systems, business process reengineering, communications, and training.

BARBARA CONNORS

 

Barbara graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Georgia with a BBA degree in Marketing and a minor in Spanish. As an undergraduate Barbara worked as a research assistant in the marketing department, aiding in both quantitative and qualitative research. Her responsibilities included survey administration, data coding, one-on-one interviewing, and transcription. Upon graduation Barbara interned as a research analyst with The Myers Group, a nationally recognized survey research firm, where she gained experience with data analysis and report production.

ERICKA DAVIS

 

A native of Minneapolis, Ericka graduated from Columbia University in 2002. While a student at Columbia, Ericka had the opportunity to study in Paris, France where she fulfilled a life-long dream of fluency in French. Upon graduation, Ericka worked as an Ad Sales Planner at Time International (a division of Time Warner) coordinating advertising within the international versions of TIME magazine. She then joined Time Inc.'s Consumer Research & Insights team where she conducted marketing and consumer research for titles such as People, Real Simple, Essence, and Parenting. In 2005, Ericka joined Millward Brown's Dynamic Logic where she led online and cross-media advertising research projects for clients such as Coca-Cola, Pfizer, Kraft, Carat, and Citibank.

AMANDA (SCOTTIE) FISHER

 

Scottie graduated cum laude from the University of Georgia in the spring semester of 2007. She earned a Bachelors of Business Administration degree in International Business with an emphasis in Marketing. In the summer of 2006, Scottie was the marketing research intern for Shentel Wireless Company. Her responsibilities included conducting secondary market research to determine the telecommunications offerings within perspective cities in Florida; developing research criteria to be used to identify target cities for a city-wide wireless network; evaluating target cities and creating extensive profiles of those cities; responding to Request for Proposals issued by cities desiring city-wide wireless networks; creating and maintaining relationships with city officials and other individuals in the telecommunications industry.

JOEL FROST

 

Joel graduated with a 4.0 gpa and highest honors from the University of Georgia with a BS degree in Psychology. He gained significant research experience through his work in the social psychology lab over the course of three semesters. The lab first exposed Joel to marketing research, where he looked at how brand personality affects the way people view their own personality. Joel also worked part-time for a marketing research firm as a recruiter and interviewer.

ANNA HARRISON

 

Anna graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Georgia with a BBA degree in marketing and an ABJ in public relations. She was a recipient of the University's most prestigious undergraduate scholarship, The Foundation Fellowship. Through her scholarship, Anna traveled extensively including studying abroad in New Zealand, Tanzania, and Hungary. While at UGA, Anna participated in and won the 2007 Bateman Case Study Competition, a nationwide public relations competition. Anna's role on the team involved conducting both qualitative and quantitative research and applying this research to the team's communication strategies. Anna interned with J.O. Rodgers and Associates conducting research on potential clients.

ERICA JOHNSON

 

Erica graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Evansville with a BS degree in Mathematics and Economics. While an undergraduate, she interned at AIG American General Finance in the marketing analytics and credit risk departments. Erica also gained experience while completing a marketing research project for the University of Evansville admissions department. Throughout her undergraduate years, she studied abroad in Grantham, England, played many intramural sports, and graduated from the UE Leadership Academy.

XIAORONG LI

 

Xiaorong is from China. She holds a BS degree in electrical engineering from Southwest Jiaotong University and a MS degree in Physics from Washington State University. During her graduate study as a research assistant, she gained precious research experience about experimental data processing and analysis and development of new optoelectronics products. With her solid technical background and marketing research education, she is dedicated to pursue a promising career in marketing research with a focus on electronics and high-technology related industries.

YING LIU

 

Ying comes from Zhejiang, China. She received a Bachelor's degree in E-Business from Nanjing University in China in 2006. After her graduation, Ying worked in the marketing department as assistant marketing manager for a local technology company. Ying performed the duties of promoting the company's image to the wider ranges of new clients via various exhibitions. Hoping to become more professional, she is eager to learn more in the marketing research field.

ROBERT RAYMOND

 

Robert graduated cum laude from Clemson University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing. While at Clemson, Robert worked in the business management division of Duke Energy for three years. At Duke, he met with internal customers to better understand their needs and created an employee rate database and a program to increase efficiency with handling invoices. During his senior year, Robert served as a campus liaison with Bloom, a division of Food Lion, LLC, where he helped conduct marketing research to determine the best strategies to increase awareness, trial, and traffic of Clemson University students at Bloom.

BLAKE SHULZ

 

Blake graduated from Weber State University in December 2005 with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a Marketing emphasis. Immediately after graduation, Blake began his career as a project manager for Opinion Factor, a research firm in Salt Lake City. He handled all aspects of data collection projects, from CATI/CAWI programming to tabulations. During his tenure at Opinion Factor, Blake had the opportunity to handle projects spanning several industries, including hospitality, healthcare, and power companies, as well as political campaigns.

DAN SWIRSKI

 

Upon graduation from Miami University with a BS degree in Finance, Dan worked for an international non-profit organization in Caracas, Venezuela. Dan later joined the Woodmere, Ohio office of American Express as a financial advisor. He most recently earned an MBA from the Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University, with concentrations in Marketing Management and Corporate Finance. During his MBA internship with Gongos Research, a marketing research company located in Auburn Hills, Michigan, Dan took part in consumer research projects for a wide variety of clients.

MONIKA THAKUR

 

Monika is from Delhi, India. She has received her BA degree in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University and has worked with British Airways in Gurgaon, India. She has been part of the team involved in the research, testing, redesign and automation of their business processes and their migration from legacy system to Amadeus.

CHRIS WIDMEYER

 

Chris received a BS degree in Marketing from The Ohio State University in 2006. During his undergraduate years, he was employed as an Assistant Tennis Pro, a Clubhouse Manager for a professional baseball team, and as a Field Department Intern for Directions Research, Inc. in Cincinnati, Ohio. Upon graduation, he returned to Directions as an Analytical Research Assistant where his duties included assisting with analyses, chart making, questionnaire design, and administering on-site quantitative studies for clients. In addition to marketing research, Chris has a passion for sports, especially the Cincinnati Reds and Ohio State Football.

SUNIL XAVIER

 

Sunil is from Kerala, India. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Electronics and an MBA with a concentration in Marketing from Mahatma Gandhi University in India. After completing his MBA in 2000, Sunil worked as Marketing Research Associate for Administrative Staff College of India for one year and then moved to Market Vision Research and Consulting in Dubai, UAE. As Project Team Leader in Market Vision, Sunil was handling complete phases of market research and business consulting activities across various industries, mainly into feasibility and market entry strategies, customer segmentation, product perception and distribution channel analysis. Most recently, Sunil worked at Ventures Middle East, and international market research supplier based in Abu Dhabi, UAE, as Senior Business Consultant. At Ventures, Sunil was into a lead role to provide strategic business consulting services to two US based multi national companies.

YE (MELODY) XIA

 

Melody received her MS degree in Telecommunications from Indiana University and a Bachelor's degree in Journalism from China Youth University for Political Sciences in Beijing. As an undergraduate, she developed an interest in marketing research from an internship with Lenovo's Customer Research Center and a Bertelsmann's media workshop. In Summer 2006, she interned with the Word of Mouth Marketing Association, a trade association in Chicago in the vanguard of word of mouth marketing, where she initiated a word of mouth marketing research blog and wrote a weekly research email newsletter. While at Indiana University, Melody worked with Dr. Ray Burke's customer interface laboratory of the Kelley School of Business. Her activities involved using computerized tracking of shopper behavior in a retail store to study customer traffic and buying patterns. She also assisted with traffic analysis of the Kelley School of Business' web site using WebTrends to track, measure, and evaluate the content effectiveness, optimize the web site layout, and maximize the flow rate.
