Fall MIS Advisory Board meeting

Fall 2012

The fall MIS Advisory Board meeting was held at the Terry Executive Education Center on October 8, and 50 board members, faculty, and students attended. After a social hour and dinner, a lively board meeting was held.

Bob Bostrom led a discussion of whether an advanced business process management course should be offered as an alternative to the now required second Java programming course. The thinking is that BPM software will increasingly be used to generate new applications. There was strong support for making the BPM option available to students.

There was also a panel of students who discussed what they are looking for in an employer. This panel was in response to a board member who wanted to know what our best students, who often have multiple offers, consider important. Considerations at the top of the students’ list include the company culture, work-life balance, the kinds of projects they will work on, training, and opportunities to interact with top management. While salary is important, they assume that it will be competitive and it is not the most important consideration. If you are interested in becoming involved with the board, contact Hugh Watson.
