Enhancing Your Leadership Skills
As one of the first MBA programs to emphasize leadership, Terry has set the standard in turning students into business leaders. Here’s how our program will prepare you to take the helm.
Before your first MBA class starts, you start learning leadership foundations through a series of workshops. Those workshops continue through the end of your second year. The workshops feature hands-on activities and topics such as:
- Communication techniques
- Personal branding
- Powerhouse presenting
- Team facilitation
Leadership Fellows Program
This is an intensive leadership development experience designed for second year UGA MBA students who seek to cultivate their leadership abilities. The goals of the program are to:
- Provide students the opportunity to identify and develop their leadership characteristics and strengths.
- Develop students’ leadership and communication skills through crisis management.
- Provide students with a service learning opportunity that challenges them as leaders.
Students selected for the program earn three credit hours towards their graduation requirements through ILAD 7500: Leadership, Personal Development, and Organizations. The in-class component of ILAD 7500 will focus on leadership, oral and written communication, teamwork, and conflict management and will utilize assessment instruments to help students identify their innate abilities and strengths. The experiential components include two business crisis simulations (fall and spring), a communications workshop, and a year-long community service project sponsored by the Athens Area Community Foundation. The program also includes a minimum of two dinners with C-level executives. Fellows who successfully complete the program will be honored at a reception at the end of the spring semester.
Enrollment is limited, and selection for the program is competitive. Students apply during spring semester of first year by submitting a required essay and updated resume. Selected students are notified at the conclusion of the first year.
