Marketing PhD Program
Program of Study
As a PhD student in the Department of Marketing, you will be responsible for completing course work in four areas:
- Major field (six courses minimum)
- Minor field (three courses minimum)
- Econometrics, Psychometrics and Statistics courses (four courses minimum)
- Research apprenticeship (two semesters minimum)
Major Courses
You are required to take the following courses for your major field courses.
- MARK 9550: Seminar in Consumer Behavior I (offered every other year)
- MARK 9450: Seminar in Market Strategy I (offered every other year
- MARK 9460: Marketing Strategy II (offered every other year)
- MARK 9560: Consumer Behavior II (offered every other year)
In addition, all students will take the following research method doctoral seminars from the marketing department:
- MARK 9650: Applied Multivariate Analysis (offered every year)
- MARK 9XXX: Research Methodology in Marketing Models (offered every other year)
Minor Field Options
The minor field consists of courses taken outside your major field that provide coherent support for your major field. You can choose a minor field:
Within other departments in the Terry College of Business
- accounting
- economics
- finance
- management
- MIS
- insurance, legal studies, and real estate
Outside the Terry College of Business
Previous PhD students have chosen such disciplines as psychology, computer science, statistics, and sociology for their minor field option.
At the discretion of the graduate coordinator, previous graduate course work may be used to satisfy major field, minor field, and research methodology requirements.
Econometrics / Statistics/Psychometrics Courses
During years 1 and 2 of the program of study, students must take courses econometrics, statistics and psychometrics. The mix of these courses will depend on the student's course of studies
Research Apprenticeship
At least two semesters of a research apprenticeship must be taken as an independent or directed study under the guidance of a major field professor. Apprenticeship work in the Department of Marketing involves research activities leading to publication.
