About the PhD in Management

With a senior faculty that includes three current and former journal editors, and a junior faculty that’s among the most productive in the country, the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business is an ideal destination for anyone interested in a PhD in Management. Our full-time in-residence program provides the training and collaboration needed to launch an academic career at a top research university.
A recent study of Management department productivity placed Georgia among the 15 most productive departments in the country in 2012 (out of approximately 300 doctoral granting universities), and in the top 25 most productive over the past five years. Georgia’s faculty excels in both the micro (i.e., organizational behavior, human resources) and macro (i.e., strategic management, organization theory) domains of management. Students with micro interests work most closely with Jason Colquitt, Daniel Feldman, Bob Vandenberg, Laura Little, Marie Mitchell, and Jessica Rodell. Students with macro interests work most closely with Allen Amason, Scott Graffin, John Haleblian, Mike Pfarrer, and Christy Shropshire.
At Georgia, PhD students work with faculty on all phases of the research process—from idea generation and study design to data analysis and writing. The culture is collegial and informal, with students viewed as colleagues and coauthors. Moreover, students are encouraged to work with multiple faculty, not just their chosen advisor or dissertation chair.
