Board Member Seminars

The Non-Profit Management and Community Service Program hosts six Board Member Seminars each year. The seminars, which are held at the Tate Center on the University of Georgia campus, run from 8:30 a.m. to approximately 4:00 p.m. These day-long programs serve various non-profit agencies throughout northeast Georgia.

Instruction in the program is provided by UGA faculty from the Terry College of Business Management Department and the Public Administration Department. Topics covered include the roles and responsibilities of the Board of Directors, strategic planning, fundraising, management of volunteers and other special concerns.

Participants have found the information provided by these seminars valuable in making decisions to help their organizations achieve their goals. In addition to hearing from experts in management, attendees receive printed materials that serve as an excellent resource for future reference. Lunch is provided at the seminar, and attendance is free. In order to serve as many agencies as possible, attendance is limited to four board members from the same organization at the same seminar.

In 2006-2007, more than 130 board members attended seminars, representing more than 70 organizations.
