Academic programs
The Management major, in which around 300 students are currently enrolled, is designed to provide students with the skills needed to coordinate and manage human, financial, physical, and informational resources to achieve an organization's goals. Each of the three content areas in the Department has a core course in the MBA program. The department also offers elective courses in the MBA program. The PhD program consists of 5-10 students. The faculty have consistently received high teaching evaluations from students and a number of faculty have received teaching awards at the College, University, and Professional Community levels. Also, in the last three years, the faculty have published 25 textbooks to support teaching efforts. Research programs
The management faculty has an exceptionally strong research record. Since the faculty is eclectic, specialized, and cross-discipline focused, the faculty publishes in a wide variety of journals. A number of faculty have won best paper awards for papers published in Proceedings and Journals. Faculty in other areas have also been recognized for their research over the years. Some examples are the best paper awards mentioned above and the Strategic Management group's recognition for its Entrepreneurship program. Especially notable is that the Strategic group has produced four winners of the national Heizer Adward for dissertations in Entrepreneurship. The faculty is quite active on journal editorial boards, both as editors and associate editors. All research faculty serve as referees for major journals in their areas. Many of the senior faculty also serve in leadership capacities in major professional organizations. Executive education and outreach
Faculty members of the department have been quite active in a variety of executive development programs designed for major organizations both in the state of Georgia, nationally and internationally. Three programs are housed within the Department and are directed by its faculty and staff. These are the Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program (one week each year), The Public Utility Leadership Program (two weeks each year), and the Southeastern Credit Union Management School (two weeks each year). Finally, the Department also houses the Non Profit Management Program whose major purpose is the development of board members of nonprofit organizations. It designs and implements several programs each year which are meant to increase the effectiveness of boards. A secondary purpose of this program is the coordination of a group of MBA students who are actively involved in carrying out a variety of projects with charity and assistance programs. |
