Service Learning

As one way to teach and demonstrate stewardship, ILA courses contain a service-learning component. The various projects support the community in which we operate and give students an understanding that leadership is about enhancing the lives of others, awareness of ethical and social issues, compassion for others, and commitment to civic issues, service, and volunteerism. Our efforts to make a continuous impact on the community are championed through a 3-semester long service model which spans ILAD4100 and ILAD5100 and connects the academic learning to the service while solving real-world problems for our community partners. Scholars are dedicated to one client for the 3 semesters while Certificate students are dedicated to one in Fall and another in Spring due to their briefer enrollment in our leadership programs.

Capstone Service-Learning Project (CSLP3)

ILA students learn leadership through real-world projects
ILA students learn leadership through “real-world” projects.

The CSLP3 is an opportunity for students to serve others by sharing their business knowledge and leadership skills acquired throughout the duration of their education. Throughout the 2 years of our leadership program, scholars are assigned to teams of five to six students and address a challenge faced by a community organization over a 16-month timespan. For more information or to arrange a CSLP3, please see our brochure (PDF | 730 KB).
