Frequently Asked Questions
What are the minimum eligibility requirements to apply for ILA programs?
- For the Leonard Leadership Scholars Program, you must be admitted to, or applying to, the Terry College. Any UGA major can apply to the Certificate program;
- You must have completed a minimum of 45 credit hours with at least a 3.2 GPA at UGA.
Can I apply if I am a third-year student?
If you plan to stay in the Terry College for a fifth year to complete your degree (e.g., the MAcc program), you may apply to the LLSP. If you will be graduating in less than two years, apply to the Certificate program. Anyone with less than a full year of school (Fall & Spring) remaining will not be able to complete either program.
Can I participate in ILA programs and study abroad?
Leonard Scholars are not allowed to study abroad during the academic year; certificate program students may study abroad anytime their schedule permits.
Is there a fee for these programs?
No, the cost of the program is underwritten by private donations.
Does ILA provide summer internships?
No, but these programs help prepare you for an internship search.
How do the mandatory ILAD courses count toward my degree requirements?
They count as business electives or as institutional option electives (be sure to check with your department advisor for specific application of these courses to elective requirements).
Are there any prerequisites for ILAD courses?
The only prerequisite is admission into ILA programs.
Can I receive Honors credit for the mandatory ILAD courses?
Yes, Honors students enrolled in ILAD 4100 and 5100 will receive Honors Program credit; Honors credit is not awarded for ILAD 5000.
What are the expectations of ILA programs?
The program's expectations are listed in the contract each student must sign to be admitted. The message of the contract is that LLSP will make significant demands on your time beyond coursework, whereas the certificate e program requirements are limited to the coursework.
How is the LLSP different from the Certificate Program?
The main differences are:
- The LLSP is open only to Terry undergraduates; Certificate is open to all UGA undergraduates.
- The LLSP involves a two-year commitment and its activities make greater demands on your time; the Certificate program can be completed in one year and has fewer extracurricular demands.
Do I need to apply to the Leonard Leadership Scholars program separate from the Certificate program?
No, Scholars and Certificate programs have online applications. If you meet the criteria, you may apply to both programs simultaneously, but will ultimately be accepted into only one program.
How do I apply for ILA undergraduate programs?
There is a simple on-line application to complete and submit.
If I am admitted to the LLSP, can I earn a certificate in leadership?
Yes, Scholars may receive the certificate by fulfilling the course requirements.

Applicants are evaluated based on (a) academic excellence, (b) demonstrated leadership experience since finishing high school, and (c) a demonstrated commitment to participate in a leadership development program focused on the values espoused by ILA.
