My ILA

The Institute regularly facilitates ILA-Wide Community Service Events. These events involve students from both Undergraduate Leadership Programs as well as ILA faculty and staff. During the Spring of 2004, the ILA joined hundreds of volunteers from a variety of age groups, ethnic backgrounds, and income levels to help build the World of Wonder (WOW) playground in Athens-Clarke County at Southeast Clarke Park. Students, faculty and staff hammered, drilled, sawed, raked, and had a great time. Participating in the project was an excellent contribution to the community and will continue to have positive results for years to come.

Scholars completed group community service projects in Spring 2006 with the Athens Food Bank and Sandy Creek Park helping to pack up items for homeless shelters and low-income families, and repair gardens and dog parks respectively. LEAD students assisted the After-School Academy at Fowler Drive Elementary with spring planting, loaded food at the Athens Food Bank, made cards for Odyssey Healthcare of Athens, and helped the Winning Water Festival at Athens Technical College.
