Community Connections This section will feature regular information on the many community service activities of the ILA. The Institute for Leadership Advancement seeks to create a strong community service and outreach component with its program and students. We have recently updated our website to highlight this as a major component of the Institute. You can visit here to see our general and program specific activities. This month will highlight the in-class activities of our leadership students. Service learning projects are often a large part of ILA courses. The professor challenges groups of 5-6 students to create and implement a meaningful semester-long community service activity. Over the years, projects have been very creative and made a significant impact in the Athens community. Click on the sites below to see these innovative and meaningful projects. A more in-depth look at a project conducted by L.E.A.D. Students for a family in New York will be forthcoming. It will show the vast scope of the project and let you know the impact it has had since implementation.

Amazing Students! Junior David Carswell (Finance), recently featured on the UGA web site homepage, enjoys taking what he has learned in the classroom and teaching it to others throughout the UGA and Athens community. He reestablished the Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) organization on campus, which is teaching important concepts through educational outreach projects, including market economics, entrepreneurship, personal and financial success, and business ethics. Carswell, a member of the Class of 2006 and a Management major, has implemented leadership skills that he acquired in the Leonard Leadership Scholars Program to lead SIFE and many other campus organizations.
