Internship Guidelines

Guidelines for Completing the Course

In order to qualify for an internship, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be a Real Estate or Risk Management and Insurance major with at least 80 earned hours prior to the term in which you will be working and enrolled in RMIN or REAL 4800
  2. Have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5
  3. Have successfully completed REAL 4000 or RMIN 4000 with a grade of "C" or better

If you meet the above criteria, print and complete the internship intent form.

Please submit your internship intent form (PDF | 18 KB) and one copy of your resume to Kathy Cohen, the Academic Advisor (297B Brooks Hall) by February 1.

Obtaining an internship:

Internships must provide relevant work experience in your area of study and you also must receive compensation of at least $6.50/hour. You should make every effort to find your own position, even when you ask for department assistance.

Real Estate majors will automatically be added to a listserv and notified through this listserv of internship positions as they become available. ALL students are strongly encouraged to register with DAWGlink, in order to receive internship notifications: www.career.uga.edu. If you take a job through a lead generated by the department (including those listed on DAWGlink), you must enroll in REAL or RMIN 4800 for credit.

After obtaining an internship, you must:

  1. Complete the job confirmation form.
  2. Register for either REAL 4800 or RMIN 4800. Please allow at least 3 working days after you submit your job confirmation form for registration eligibility. You may enroll for either 3 or 6 hours credit. You must work at least 150 hours for 3 hours credit and at least 300 hours for 6 hours credit. As with any course in which you will receive academic credit, you will need to pay tuition for these hours.

To complete your internship, you must submit the following:

  1. Photograph of you and your employer's sign
  2. One page summary
  3. Journal of daily activities
  4. Paper analyzing your employer and your activities during your internship

For more detailed information, please refer to the Internship Requirements page.
The department will request an evaluation directly from your supervisor.

Deadlines:

  • If you are scheduled to graduate at the end of the semester in which you are enrolled in your internship, all materials must be submitted to the Department Office no later than 5:00 pm on the last day of classes for that semester.
  • If you are not scheduled to graduate and you do not need a grade reported for any other reason by the end of the semester in which you are enrolled in your internship, all materials must be submitted to the Department Office no later than 5:00 pm on the midpoint of the semester after the one in which you are enrolled in 4800. Spring interns must have their materials into the department by the mid-point of the Summer Thru Session. You will receive a grade of incomplete ("I") until all of your materials are received. All pertinent dates can be found on the academic calendar at www.uga.edu.
