Gamma Iota Sigma

The department sponsors two student organizations for majors in Risk Management and Insurance. Both organizations—Insurance Society and Gamma Iota Sigma—are important in enhancing the professional development of majors within the department.

For information on this semester's meeting, be sure to look at our IMPORTANT DATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS page and subscribe to the RMININFO Listserv.

Gamma Iota Sigma elects officers during the Spring semester. A list of the positions and duties is available by using this link to SUMMARY OF OFFICER DUTIES.

The 2007-2008 officers of Gamma Iota Sigma:

President: Jeffrey Elrod
VP Communications: Stephanie Martin
VP Finance: Jesse Ammons
VP Industry Relations: Adam Kazinec
VP Student Relations: Preya Patel
Faculty Advisor: Dr. James Hilliard

Gamma Iota Sigma is an honorary fraternity with selective membership criteria. To join Gamma Iota Sigma, a student must have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average for all coursework. In addition to the recognition associated with membership in an honorary organization, students who join Gamma Iota Sigma have opportunities for extensive contact and interaction with industry representatives, through the meetings and special conferences sponsored by the fraternity, and through the services offered through the Gamma Iota Sigma Grand Chapter.

Gamma Iota Sigma also is responsible for the Intern-for-a-Day program. This program gives students the opportunity to visit companies for a day to see their risk management or insurance related operations.

Currently, dues for Gamma Iota Sigma are $40. Membership applications can be obtained online or in 206 Brooks; students who are accepted for membership must make a one-time dues payment in addition to Insurance Society dues. For additional details about the fraternity, contact the faculty advisor, Dr. James Hilliard (297 Brooks).
