The Terry College of Business requires its students to gain a strong foundation in both the liberal arts and in business principles. Therefore, a student must finish two years of coursework before applying to International Business major. (Usually students apply to the I.B. major at the end of the spring semester of their sophomore year.)
For the first two years of college, the student intending to major in International Business takes classes from the College's core curriculum (including English, mathematics, lab sciences, social sciences, and basic business courses in accounting, economics, and legal studies). He or she will also begin their language sequence during their freshman year, and will continue it throughout their time at UGA.

One Step Further... The Business Core
As International Business majors approach their junior year, they begin work on the business core curriculum:
- Principles of Marketing (MARK 3000) - Introduces students to marketing, dealing with issues such as consumer behavior, sales management, advertising and distribution.
- Statistical Analysis for Business (MSIT 3000) - Helps students apply statistics to business.
- Financial Management (FINA 3000) - Provides a firm background in the basic concepts of financial decision-making.
- Management of Organizations and Individuals (MGMT 3000)-Managerial issues covered are strategy, job and organization design, ethics and social responsibility, diversity, global influences, leadership, motivation, human resource management, and organizational change.
Specialization... The Major
If the student has completed 60 semester hours and "Area F" (see degree requirement checksheet), he/she may apply to a major in International Business Programs through Undergraduate Programs. Once accepted to the IB major, the student will follow this general layout for coursework (see Degree Requirement Checklist for most current information):
- Two required International Business courses:
- ECON 4040 (the international business environment--a prerequisite for IB majors)
- MGMT 5560 (international strategic management--a capstone course for IB majors).
- Four courses from a chosen Area of Emphasis, one of which must have an international emphasis.
- One elective International Business course (see Major Coursework list).
