This "Nuremberg exchange" program combines Business and German language studies in one semester at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany. Students take one German course and two business courses (taught in English). Further, students participate in a week-long competitive business simulation (Planspiel) with other German students. The semester abroad fulfills part of the requirements for the Certificate in Business and Political German, administered by the UGA Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies.

Courses and Credit

Courses taken on UGA exchanges are counted as transfer credit. A credit approval form is required prior to departure. Students should discuss course selections and how they apply to degree requirements with their academic advisor.

The program begins with an in-depth orientation program, which includes a language course (level depends on placement test). Additional requirements include an upper-level German course (4000-level) and two business courses from a list of options, historically including:

  • European and International Business Law (=LEGL 4900);
  • Data Analysis (=MIST 3000);
  • Labor Economics (=ECON 4000);
  • Consumer Logistics and Supply Chain Management (=MGMT 4T**);
  • Monetary Policy (=ECON 4030 or 4500).

Students pay for the orientation session and language course prior to the semester in Nuremberg. Tuition is typically covered by HOPE.
