Director's Message

Director of Diversity Relations
On behalf of the Office of Diversity Relations, welcome to the Terry College of Business. With the changing demographics and international scope of the marketplace, our mission is to leverage diversity to prepare our students to gain the competencies to address the complex issues of the workplace and have long successful careers.
As a student of the Terry College of Business, you will be taught the nuts and bolts of finance, marketing, management and accounting. Equally important, though, is our specialized diversity-training program that helps aspiring business professionals gain the social and cultural knowledge to be successful in the global workplace. Here at Terry, we know that, as a student, you must know your professional strengths and limitations and be able to effectively work with others from different backgrounds. After completing our program, our students possess a broad knowledge about researching other cultures and are able to successfully launch new products or services in an increasingly diverse marketplace.
Terry defines diversity in the broadest way possible and seeks to create an environment that acknowledges the importance of diversity of all kinds. In addition to the traditional categories of race, gender, disabilities, affinity orientation and religion, we see diversity as the traits that each individual brings to the environment that affects team dynamics. Whether it is your family or geographical background, growing up in a particular socioeconomic bracket, experiences in the workplace, cultural accent or your generational group, we believe you can enhance the learning environment here at Terry. Cross-cultural interaction and the exchange of ideas across perspectives promote a superior learning atmosphere and better prepare our students for a challenging workplace.
Both inside and outside the classroom, we seek to cultivate a community that is engaged, responsive and inclusive. By participating in our Workforce Diversity Series, you may gain a competitive edge in the job search and will have distinctive opportunities to attend socials with peers and benefit from networking with our Corporate Diversity Partners.
I invite you to explore all that the Terry College of Business has to offer and strongly consider applying to our program. Our diversity Website provides in-depth of knowledge including information about the Athens community as well as student and diversity resources. We are seeking the best and the brightest and invite you to join us here at Terry. Please feel free to reach out to me with any additional suggestions, questions or comments.
Sincerely,
Randy Groomes
