Members asked if Sally could please send out reminders about the meetings.

The Dean approved the submitted budget proposal: $1,000 for BAPS functions $500 travel for University System of Georgia Staff Conference attendance

The conference this year is at the University of West Georgia, September 25-26. It is a great opportunity to meet other staff from institutions around the state and get a perspective on the types of issues they are dealing with and some of their solutions. You also make some good networking connections and even have some fun. Anyone who is interested in attending the state wide conference should get in touch with Sally.

Report from the last Staff Council meeting: the budget was discussed and materials for new representatives was handed out (The Staff Council web page is located at http://www.uga.edu/ugasc/ and materials can be found at the "About ..." link. Also, it was announced that beginning in October, the lowest salary at UGA will be $15,000. The next Staff Council meeting, September 4 at 2:00 p.m. will be a political forum. The place for the meeting will be announced later. The UGASTAFF listserv will be changed to allow only three messages per day from any one person. Also staff should be aware that if the "traffic" on the listserv is too much, there is another listserv – UGASC that is for official postings from Staff Council (not a discussion list). If you are interested in the listservs offered (also there is UGA-FORSALE), you can check out the web link http://www.uga.edu/ugasc/lists/index.html.

The job classification study forms have been sent to some Terry staff and there was a discussion about these. It was recommended that you don't start on it until you have a time set aside that you can devote to it because if you don't have any activity for 30 minutes, it will log you out and you will lose any unsaved changes. It's not as intimidating at it seems at first. The best thing to do is print out the pages (must do it one page at a time) and study them before you start. What is required on the form is not how well you do your job or necessarily what you do, but what is required of the position. Once it is submitted to the supervisor, the employee can view it but not make changes. However, if you accidently submit it before you meant to, you can call Human Resources and have it reset.

The Dean had planned a staff meeting, but due to conflicts in the time and place, the meeting will be posponed.

The Dean had asked for a list of topics for discussion at the next staff meeting and the following was proposed. If anyone would like questions added to the list, please contact Sally (svandive@terry.uga.edu).
