Members absent: Elizabeth WiIey (Office of Executive Programs), Chris Taylor (External Relations) The meeting was called to order by Betty Baskins.

The minutes from the previous meeting were approved with the exception that Cynthia Huff was absent and her name was not on the list.

Betty discussed the Staff Council meeting. She discussed insurance and stated that the indemnity and the PPO were called "self insured" and that they ended up with a reserve if the Board of Regents ratesj, fiat are set are underestimated. Apparently, that reserve is being used to help with the budget cut problems. In addition, the indemnity and the PPO costs will be increasing in July by 10%. The cost passed on to staff will only be 5% with the reserve being used to make up that other 5%. The HMO is called "fully insured" and if the cost is overestimated, the insurance company takes that extra money rather than build up a reserve. The cost of the HMO is going to rise in January. We can also expect a double digit increase for the next year as well.

Tuition will increase by a high single digit percentage (like 9%) next year. This is being done to avoid more layoffs. There is also talk of outsourcing Auxiliary Services.

The shared leave program is very successful with 70 people taking advantage of it and over 10000 hours being donated. Over 500 people have taken advantage of the Employee Assistance program.

The classification issue is finally being acted on with implementation beginning in January. Everyone wil have a title change with a letter explaining the change in January.

In old business, the question is being put forth to the appropriate people about tuition remission; why do staff have to wait until the end of registration to register? There was a vote about whether the staff would like to see the dean's five year review and the vote was no.

ecember 16'~ is the Christmas luncheon and we will begin collecting for the Dean's gift and the custodian gifts the week after Thanksgiving. Betty Pharr will ask the Dean what charity he would like his gift to go to.

Betty said we needed to be thinking about questions for the Staff Award Questionnaire so she can nncc. them along to Sheila.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 10:OO am.
