The meeting was called to order at 9:05 by Cindy Daniel. There were no corrections to the minutes of the December SRG meeting and they were approved as written.
Staff Council: Elaine Merrill reported the majority of the February 7th meeting was the elections of the Staff Council officers and University Council committee positions. Elaine also mentioned the policy regarding UGA performing background checks on new employees. A Human Resources representative tried to clarify these changes to the system for background checks is to standardize the current system across the University System of Georgia.
Old Business: Cindy Daniel congratulated Stan Johnson, Ruth Davis, and anyone else involved in our Toys for Tots 2006 campaign. Cindy mentioned the Commander's Award for the Terry College and thanked those involved. The Dean's New Year's gift generated $100.00 for the Shepherd Center. Cindy will send the donation to the Shepherd Center and e-mail the staff when this task is completed.
New Business: Brad Hunt, of the Terry Dean's Search Committee, attended the first portion of the SRG meeting. Brad indicated the Committee has met twice and a search firm is working with them. They have received a charge from the provost for what we are looking for in a Dean. The Committee will conduct "airport interviews" April 9-10 and hope to have candidates coming to campus in May. The Committee would like to have a new Dean in place in 2007. Their next meeting is March 1, 2007. The Terry College web site for the Dean's search is http://www.terry.uga.edu/deansearch/.
A previously tabled item from November 2006 was discussed. The SRG would like to (as a College) collect personal and hygiene items for various charities throughout the year. The majority of these items can come from the personal hotels items we pick-up during our travels. The first charity will be the Sparrow' Nest (on Prince Avenue). A box will be placed in Logistics for collecting these items. Once the box is filled, it will be delivered to the Sparrow's Nest. Cindy Daniel will send an e-mail to all faculty/staff of the Terry College explaining this endeavor.
Cindy Daniel was given an agenda item to discuss the status of the staff award "plaque" or "show case" that Dean Benson worked on for years. It was stated the possibility of waiting to place the award winners in the new building. This issue was tabled until a new dean is in place.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:37.
