SRG BYLAWS
TERRY COLLEGE OF BUSINESS
STAFF REPRESENTATIVE GROUP (SRG) BYLAWS
August, 2006
INTRODUCTION
The Staff Council of the University of Georgia is officially recognized by t
he Board of Regents as a university-wide communications network organization
designed to deal with university related staff concerns and issues, and as an
advisory board to the President of the University. The bylaws of the Staff
Council requires staff representation from each college, school and vice
presidential unit of the University. The Staff Representative Group of the
Terry College (SRG) makes sure that a representative to the Staff Council
is elected and that this person remains informed of any issues of importance
in the Terry College. Another important role of the SRG is to address
professional concerns, issues or suggestions within the Terry College.
The Staff Representative Group (SRG) evolved from the Terry Professional Staff
(BAPS). This group, which was originally named the Non-Academic Personnel (NAP),
was established by the Dean to serve as a communication channel between the
professional staff and the Dean. In 1986, the name of the organization was
changed to the Business Administration Professional Staff to reflect the
professional image of the staff. Now the BAPS committee serves as the host
for social events and as the community building team for the Terry College,
while SRG acts as a representative group from each department to address
college issues.
STAFF REPRESENTATIVE GROUP (SRG)
The functions of the SRG are as follows:
- Because SRG in each unit of the University is mandated by the
UGA Staff Council Bylaws and the Board of Regents, attendance by
departmental representatives is mandatory.
- SRG will meet the second Wednesday of each month (except
July and January).
- Minutes will be taken and placed on Terry V drive, once they are approved at the next meeting.
- SRG will schedule an annual meeting of all staff with the
Dean.
Unit Representatives
- Each Terry College unit (see below) will elect a
representative from their area to serve for a minimum of one year.
- Representatives are to attend SRG meetings or provide for
an alternate to attend. If an alternate is not available, the representative
should contact another SRG member to cover for his/her departmental unit.
- Representatives are to inform other unit members of issues
brought before SRG and any concerns of the University Staff Council.
- Representatives are to solicit input from members of their
unit and bring any issues of concern to the SRG meeting.
- Representatives are to bring any concerns of individual
staff members from their unit to the SRG. The format may be verbal or
written. Anonymity is preserved from other representatives if desired.
If a concern cannot be handled without revealing the staff member's name,
the staff member is so advised. He/she may choose to cancel the
discussion of the problem at that time.
- Any major decisions or points of interest regarding
changes in Terry College policies or procedures will be submitted from the
SRG to the Dean and the results will be reported to all the staff.
- The Chair of the SRG is responsible for maintaining files
of concerns and efforts made to arrive at solutions brought up through the
representatives.

UNIVERSITY STAFF COUNCIL
Two representatives from the Terry College will be elected by
secret ballot from all Terry College staff members at large
before the June Staff Council meeting. A change in the bylaws
was presented and passed February 2006 to divide the SRG
responsibilities into two positions; a Chairperson and a
Co-Chairperson.
The Chairperson will create the agendas and moderate over the monthly SRG meetings.
The Co-Chairperson will be the Terry Staff Council Representative
(SCR) and attend all Staff Council meetings. This position is the
communication link between the Staff Council of the University and
the Staff Representative Group of the Terry College.
The Co-Chairperson will assist the Chairperson during any required
meetings with the Dean's office. Both must be a staff member in the
Terry College for a minimum of one calendar year, and be willing to
commit to a one-year term.
