This year, we have made great progress increasing the number and enhancing the overall quality and expertise of the faculty at the Terry College. Every academic department in the college conducted at least one – and in several cases multiple – national searches for new faculty.

The result was the addition of 19 faculty colleagues, including 15 who are either tenured or tenure-track hires. These faculty, in particular, are essential for Terry to continue its improvement and to be seen in ever wider circles as one of the nation’s prominent business schools. They also fill an immediate need of teaching our growing student body and preparing them for careers after graduation.

Some of our new faculty are succeeding professors who have retired or left for other offers. Despite the natural attrition, we have achieved a net increase of five tenure-track faculty members from where we were last year.

The funds for these hires come from a variety of sources. Some of it was directed to the college from President Michael Adams’ faculty hiring initiative, and he has announced the university will fund a second round of tenure-track hiring this coming year. Donations from alumni and other groups have helped fund these positions as well. We’ve also increased the range and scope of executive education, creating new sources of revenue to put back into instruction. Lastly, I’m very confident that we are operating the college more efficiently than two or three years ago.

By combining our efforts and consolidating our gains, we continue to build back and build up the faculty of the Terry College for the ultimate benefit of our students and the business community.
