Dean’s Message for Terry FYI Newsletter

Dean and Simon S. Selig, Jr. Chair for Economic Growth

In the midst of homecoming season, it’s only appropriate to welcome the newest members of the Terry family.
First, I’d like to welcome UGA students pursuing Bachelors of Arts degrees in economics. While we’ve informally considered “AB econ” majors as a part of Terry for some time, the degree has been awarded by the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences.
This change means that students pursuing this degree will gain access to Terry’s student services, opportunities for professional and leadership development, and invitations to Terry-only events.
In addition, we’ve added two new certificate programs for students interested in pursuing legal and actuarial careers.
The Certificate in Legal Studies is designed to prepare students for the complex legal environment of the business world. It’s also a good chance for those students considering law school to gauge their interest in the field.
The new Actuarial Science Certificate program will help Terry students get a leg up on what CNBC calls “one of the best jobs for 2012.”
I’d also like to remind you that on Nov. 29, Gov. Nathan Deal and Albert Niemi Jr., dean of Southern Methodist University’s Cox School of Business, will join me at the Economic Outlook series kickoff in Atlanta.
Following that event, the series will continue to 12 cities across the region.

In addition, a new issue of Terry Magazine should be arriving on your doorstep in the next few days.
Finally, I’d like to extend our deepest sympathies to everyone affected by Hurricane Sandy. If you’d like to help out, you can donate to the American Red Cross.
On behalf of our ever-increasing Terry family, I wish you all a safe and warm holiday season.
