We are proud to celebrate the Terry College Honors Day as part of the University’s Honors Week. We’ve seen the level of participation by students, faculty, and scholarship donors increase dramatically over the past four years. Two elements of this year’s Terry event particularly stood out for me, both of which relate to the increased connections between our students and our alumni.

First, Alumnus Wyck Knox (BBA ‘62, LLB ‘64) of Augusta gave the students good advice during his address—to have fun, always continue learning, persevere for success, and to give back. Taking this advice will help assure success for students while in school and beyond the classroom.

Second, emeritus members of the Terry Alumni Board collaborated with the college to create the Alumni Board Student of the Year Award. This new award recognizes students not only for academic performance, but for demonstrating a range of behaviors and capabilities we think will assure their success as they become alumni. I extend a special ‘thank you’ to Robert Copeland (BBA ‘70) for his leadership of the emeritus group in creating this award. I also extend hearty congratulations to economics major Patrick Fitzmaurice (BBA ‘12) for his outstanding accomplishments and his recognition as the first recipient of this award.
