The last few months have cast an especially bright light on Terry faculty members. Groups ranging from international research societies to Fortune 500 companies and the UGA community have each taken time to highlight the achievement of a Terry teacher since the new year began.

I’d like to take a moment and echo the recent praise earned by our faculty members, who continually remind the nation of why Terry is one of the best places in the country to get a business education.

Some of the recent honors our faculty have received include:

  • Charlotte Mason, head of the Marketing Department, has been named the Terry Distinguished Chair in Marketing, for her superlative efforts in research, teaching and service.
  • Legal Studies professor Marisa Pagnattaro has been selected for the Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professorship, the university’s highest recognition for superior instruction.
  • Elena Karahanna, the Rast Professor of Business in the Department of Management Information Systems, received the Association for Information Systems’ AIS Fellow Award last month at the 2012 International Conference on Information Systems in Orlando. It recognizes individuals who have made outstanding research, teaching and service contributions to the field of information systems throughout their careers.
  • Emeritus professor of real estate Jim Kau received the George Bloom Service Award, the highest award given by the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association.
  • And, finally, accounting Ph.D. student Emily Griffiths was selected as one of only 10 students in the nation to receive a Deloitte Accounting Fellowship, which comes with a $25,000 stipend toward her final year of coursework.

In addition, our faculty research continues to turn up in prominent publications, like this New York Times article based on data from economics professors Christopher Cornwell and David Mustard; and this Washington Post article that cites a study by management professor Scott Graffin.

A world-class education begins with top-flight instructors, and with the reputation Terry faculty are earning we’re well on our way to national prominence.
