The accomplishments of our students and alumni are important to our vision of national prominence. Business practitioners, faculty, and even students consistently tell me that a complete educational experience must include effective communication. I wholeheartedly agree; and I’m working with faculty to better achieve this goal. We already see evidence in the accomplishments of our students.
Just last month, a team of accounting students (David Barker, Victori Bolick, Meredith Lind, and Alex Pirie) won first prize at the Institute of Management Accountants National Case Competition in Las Vegas. This team was successful not only because of their detailed knowledge of accounting, but also because of their creative presentation.
Earlier this spring, a Terry MBA team (Kishore Nimmagadda, Bharath Natarajan, Patrick Muller, and Sonya Penkova) presented a smartphone app for quality healthcare advice and won second place at the Innovate 4 Health Challenge in Washington D.C., beating out competitors from Carnegie Mellon, Georgetown and Harvard to name a few. Another MBA team (Tim Ludwick, Greg DeBacker, Nate Hill and Patrick Maynor) won the Sterne Agee Student Investment Competition, defeating four other schools by netting the largest return (12.03%) on a $50,000 investment over a six-month period.
Real estate MBAs (Fair Tomlinson, Chris Heins, Clayton Edwards, Clayton Mozingo, and Jared Londry) won the Atlanta National Association of Industrial and Office Properties School Challenge real estate case competition. The team captured first place by presenting in-depth research on a feasible, market-oriented development plan for a 300-acre urban renewal project.
Terry students know the value that effective communication and critical thinking bring to a detailed knowledge of business. It adds up to success—personal, academic, and career.
