2013 Alumni Award Recipients
The following award recipients will be honored at an evening ceremony on April 27, 2013 along with 2012 Pinnacle Society inductees. Award recipients were selected by the Terry College Alumni Board.
Distinguished Alumni Award

Terry Brown (BBA 1984)
Terry Brown is chief executive officer of EDENS, one of the nation’s leading private owners, operators, and developers of retail real estate. EDENS is based in Columbia, S.C., with regional headquarters in Boston, New York, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, and Miami. Brown, a summa cum laude graduate of UGA’s Terry College of Business, joined EDENS as CEO in 2002. Today, the company is distinguished by the connectivity of its centers to their communities, as well as by its investment grade quality balance sheet and unique corporate culture. Under Brown’s leadership, EDENS has established marketplace leadership positions in sustainability practices, technology, and management training. Brown was previously CEO of Andersen Corporate Finance, where he was responsible for strategy and investment banking activities on a global basis across the real estate, manufacturing, technology, services, and energy industries. Prior to joining Andersen, he was a U.S. Army officer. Brown is a member of the Real Estate Roundtable and the Urban Land Institute. He is a former trustee and executive committee member of the International Council of Shopping Centers, and he is a member of the Liberty Fellowship, a leadership initiative sponsored by the Aspen Institute. Brown serves on the board of directors of the University of Georgia Foundation, Consolidated Systems, and the Opus Corporation. He is also a member of the Palmetto Business Forum. Brown was a 2011 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year regional award winner and a national finalist.

Julio Ramirez (MBA 1977)
Julio Ramirez had an expansive career with the Burger King Corporation, spanning 26 years under five different owners. He left the company in 2010, following its acquisition by a Brazilian private equity firm. Most recently, Ramirez was Burger King’s executive vice president for global operations, having worked his way up from an entry-level marketing manager position to two terms as president of the Latin America/Mexico/Caribbean division, and two years as a senior executive of franchise operations and development in North America. Ramirez introduced the Burger King brand to 10 countries, and he is one of the most knowledgeable executives in the quick-service restaurant industry. With a deep understanding of Latin American political, economic, and restaurant industry concerns, he has served as a guest lecturer for universities and business forums around the world. Prior to joining Burger King, Ramirez held positions with Xerox and AT&T Information Systems. Ramirez recently founded JEM Consulting, a restaurant, retail, and franchising business that includes consulting for 100 Montaditos, a unique Spanish restaurant-brewery concept, based in Madrid, which is expanding to Florida, Washington, D.C., Mexico, and several countries in Latin America. He is also a part owner in Giardino Gourmet Salads. Ramirez received his undergraduate business degree from Georgia State and his MBA from UGA’s Terry College of Business, where he serves on the Terry Dean’s Advisory Council. He lives in Miami, Fla., and is a member of the prestigious Orange Bowl Committee.
Outstanding Young Alumni Award

David Battle, Jr. (BBA 2000)
David Battle is a vice president at Metalmark Capital, a New York-based private equity firm that makes long-term investments in enterprises and has a particular focus and competence in the energy/natural resources, defense/government services, industrial, and healthcare sectors. Battle is a director of HDT Global, a provider of expeditionary solutions to military, emergency response, and commercial customers; and the Schafer Corporation, a provider of scientific, engineering, and technical services and products applied to defeating national security threats. Prior to joining Metalmark Capital, Battle was an associate at J.P. Morgan Partners in New York and an analyst at Bowles Hollowell Conner & Co/First Union Securities in Charlotte. He is a magna cum laude graduate of UGA’s Terry College of Business, and he received a MBA degree from Harvard Business School. Battle has played a meaningful role in the creation and development of the Corsair Society, an organization that provides a support network for UGA students exploring career opportunities in financial services and related sectors. Since its inception in 2006, the Corsair Society has helped place more than 70 students in summer internships that have led to full-time employment at leading financial institutions and consulting firms. Additionally, the initiative has recently been expanded to include Introduction to Enterprises & Capital Markets, a course offered in collaboration between the Terry College and the UGA Honors Program. Battle is originally from Marietta, Ga., and he is a graduate of Walton High School.
