2012 Alumni Award Recipients

The following award recipients were honored at an evening ceremony on April 28, 2012 along with 2011 Pinnacle Society inductees. Award recipients were selected by the Terry College Alumni Board.

James W. Barge (BBA 1978)

Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer, Viacom, Inc.

Jimmy Barge graduated summa cum laude from Terry’s J.M. Tull School of accounting in 1978. Having joined Viacom, Inc. in 2008, he currently serves as executive vice president and chief financial officer, where he is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company’s financial planning, reporting and analysis, as well as its global tax and cash management strategies and its information technology and risk management activities.

Additionally, Barge serves on the board of directors of Scholastic Corporation, the world’s largest publisher and distributor of children’s books and a leader in educational technology. He is also a board member and treasurer for both the United Neighborhood Houses of New York, which provides neighborhood-based social services, and for the Ad Council, whose public service advertising raises awareness and promotes action on significant public issues. Barge is a member of the advisory council for the SEC Institute and a past member of the Financial Executive Institute’s committee on corporate reporting. Along with his many other endeavors, the 2007 Tull School Alumnus of the Year lectures in leadership classes at Terry, is an energetic force on the Terry Alumni Board, and hosts an annual event in Times Square for fellow Terry alums.

Barge and his wife, Susan, have two children who live and work in California: Andrew, a software engineer with Capgemini in Los Angeles, and Jamie, a horse trainer with Kylie Co. in Malibu.

Winburn (Brother) Stewart, Jr. (BBA 1974)

President, Bibb Distributing, Co.

Winburn Stewart Jr., known to all as ‘Brother’, is one of Middle Georgia’s most accomplished business executives and one of it most devoted community leaders. He is president and chief executive officer of the Macon-based Bibb Distributing Company, and he serves on a number of advisory boards: Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia, Macon Boys Club, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, United Way, Macon-Bibb County Chamber of Commerce, and the Museum of Aviation at Robins Air Force Base.

His dedication to these efforts is exceeded only by his dedication to the University of Georgia and to the Terry College of Business. Stewart joined the Terry Alumni Board in 2001 and co-chaired the first gala/golf event with fellow board member Joe Terrell. He also chaired the Terry Campaign Steering Committee during the UGA archway to Excellence Campaign. He has served on the Board of Overseers and currently serves on Dean Robert Sumichrast’s advisory council.

Stewart has two children, both of whom are alumni of the Terry College, and three grandchildren. Daughter, Carolyn Stewart Morgan (BBA ’02), who resides in Athens with her husband, Chris, is a special events coordinator with Athens Country Club. They have one son, Henry. Stewart’s son Win (BBA ’03) works with the Washington Property Company in Denver, Colo. Win and wife, Morgan, are the parents of a son, Wes, and a daughter, Hadley.

Matt Stinchcomb (BBA 1998)

Client Executive, Seacrest Partners, Inc.
Chairman, Countdown to Kickoff Charities

Matt Stinchcomb is a client executive with Seacrest Partners, a privately owned risk management and consultation group with offices in Savannah and Atlanta. Stinchcomb joined the firm’s property-casualty insurance brokerage and employee benefit consulting area in 2009 following a successful National Football league career with the Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As a result of his academic and athletic accomplishments at Georgia, Matt was awarded a prestigious National Football Foundation Postgraduate Scholarship. He currently serves as chairman of the Countdown to Kickoff Charities, a fundraising arm for pediatric healthcare philanthropies, and he is president and co-founder, with brother, Jon, of the Stinchcomb Family Foundation, a private nonprofit organization that supports children’s charities.

Among his many academic and athletic honors, Stinchcomb holds a BBA in finance from Terry and graduated summa cum laude with a membership in The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. He is a 2006 graduate of the Harvard Business School’s Executive Education Business Management and Entrepreneurial Program. Stinchcomb was selected to the inaugural UGA “40 under 40” class in 2011, he is an active member of the Terry College Young Alumni Board, and he was recently inducted into the UGA Athletic Association's prestigious Circle of Honor.

He is a popular analyst and host for Comcast TV’s “Sportsnight”, as well as the SEC College Football Tailgate Show for 680/The Fan, an ESPN radio affiliate in Atlanta. Matt and his wife, Jennifer, live in Peachtree City, Ga., with their two daughters, Janie and Addie, and a son, Whitt.
